What to Expect
Walking into a new setting, especially a new church, can be intimidating. But new experiences can also be energizing and exciting. If ever you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask any one of our friendly church family members, or feel free to contact the church office.
Where we're located...
We are located at 11609 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, right next to the McDonald's and across from the Penn Hills Shopping Center. If you're taking the Parkway, exit at Penn Hills, follow Rodi Road until the top of the hill, then make a left onto Frankstown Road.
Before you arrive...
Everyone is welcome at Zion. All we expect from you is to bring an open heart and mind. Our congregation members and visitors come from all different backgrounds and are all different ages. There is no dress code at Zion. Feel free to wear whatever makes you most comfortable. Most people tend to wear slacks or jeans with a button-down top or blouse. (And of course you can expect people to wear black & gold on a Steeler Sunday!) Please keep in mind that we don't have central air, but we do have massive fans that circulate throughout the sanctuary very well.
When you arrive...
Our parking lot is around the back of the church. There's an additional gravel lot that overlooks Frankstown Road (by the stained glass). As you enter from the rear door, you will be in our Gathering Space, where people mingle and you can hang up a coat, grab a sip of water, or peruse the treats that will be available after our worship has ended!
Straight ahead is our sanctuary, where you will be greeted by our ushers who will offer you a bulletin. This gives you the order of the service as well as a list of prayer concerns and announcements for activities in and around Zion. Any special instructions will be listed in the bulletin or announced in a few moments before the worship begins.
If you're attending service with children, feel free to grab an activity bag before heading to your seat. You'll also notice our Prayground on the balcony - you can read more about that here!
You can sit wherever you want - there are no assigned seats!
Bathrooms are located at the back of the sanctuary. When looking at the glass doors, the bathrooms are to the left.
Worship...
Zion is a liturgical congregation which means that we follow an order of service that is ancient and biblically based. Worship is made up of call and response, prayers, songs and silent meditation. Throughout the service, you will be invited to stand, sit or kneel as you are able.
You can follow along in your bulletin. The bulletin references page numbers in the red hymnal and its insert in the back. If you're ever unsure, you can always ask someone sitting close by!
You are invited to sing and participate in worship as you please. For more information about communion, click here.
After worship...
We hope that you'll stay after worship for a fellowship hour in the Gathering Space! We will have coffee, snacks, and good conversation. You are also welcome to stay for our Christian Education class, which is open to everyone and takes place in the Youth Room.
